(PLEASE NOTE: The September 27th workshop is currently "sold out" however, we are pleased to announce a 2nd workshop has been arranged:

Tuesday, October 3rd, 4:30-8:30pm 

Alameda County Office of Education, 313 West Winton Ave, Hayward.  

Teachers who have already been placed on the waiting list for the sold out event on September 27th will have priority to register for the October 3rd event.  To register as a new participant please contact:

KQED School Services and Facing History and Ourselves invite teachers to an evening of film, conversation, and education for the re-release of the nationally acclaimed PBS film series, EYES ON THE PRIZE.

Workshop highlights:

  • View film segments of episode one, Awakenings, which focuses on the catalytic events of 1954-1956 and the lynching of Emmett Till, and episode two, Fighting Back, which focuses on the integration of Little Rock's Central High School.
  • Discussion and modeled classroom activities on the historical content and language arts themes of EYES ON THE PRIZE.
  • Free resources such as educator guides and copies of the film.

Doors open at 4:30pm

KQED School Services presents its ongoing series, Bay Area Mosaic, a project designed to help educators integrate ethnic studies and diversity content into the classroom curricula.

Facing History and Ourselves offers in-depth professional development services; curricular resources; and ongoing support to educators and students in the areas of history, social studies, and language arts. FHAO is dedicated to helping teachers around the world lead their students in a critical examination of history, with particular focus on genocide and mass violence.
